dVP_FAM

The need-based and timely care of individuals at risk of familial cancer is becoming increasingly complex and individualized as a result of continuous scientific advances. To achieve this, those affected and players from all sectors in the healthcare system must work closely together. So far, there are hardly any digital technologies in Germany that support transsectoral care.

The digital care platform dVP_FAM aims to improve the identification, individual counselling and further care of people with familial breast and ovarian cancer. As a first step, the family history interview with practicing gynaecologist will be digitally supported via the dVP_FAM. The preparation for a specialized genetic consultation in a certified centre for familial breast and ovarian cancer (FBREK centre) is managed via the digital platform, as is the collection of the necessary documents and the scheduling of appointments. Those seeking advice will have full control over their data at all times and access to all important and individually coordinated information. This creates a transsectoral care concept – from the branch office to the specialized FBREK centres – and back!

The goals of the innovation fund project dVP_FAM are:

  • the early identification of patients with a familial cancer risk,
  • the simplification of the exchange of information across sector boundaries,
  • increasing the efficiency of care, and
  • enhancing patient empowerment and improving the quality of life of individuals at familial risk for cancer.

Since October 2023, a cluster-randomized study, semi-structured interviews and observations of platform users‘ everyday lives have been used to examine the impact of dVP_FAM on the quality of care. In case of success, the care platform will be adopted in standard care.
